Episode 501 of Craft Beer Republic is out now, and it starts with a bold move. Flex gives up drinking..

Greg does not.

The latest episode of the Craft Beer Republic craft beer podcast is here, and this one covers everything from hazy IPA to bizarre bar shots and major craft beer industry news.

Flex kicks things off by announcing he’s giving up alcohol for Lent, which means Greg is drinking for two. While Greg cracks a Sabro-heavy hazy IPA from Shelter Beer Company, Flex experiments with something called a dirty soda. It’s exactly what it sounds like. Soda and coffee creamer.

Things go downhill from there in the best way possible.

Flex brings back stories from Daytona Bike Week, including a baby bird shot and a hurricane shot that ends with a slap to the face. Naturally the important question becomes: which shot would you actually take?

Are Brewery Tap Lists Getting Out of Control?

A listener also writes in about something many craft beer fans have noticed lately. Tap lists are getting huge.

Some breweries now pour 20 or even 30 beers on draft, often packed with hazy IPAs, pastry stouts, smoothie sours, and experimental releases. Is that variety a good thing for craft beer lovers, or is it making it harder to simply order a pint?

Greg and Flex debate whether breweries are doing too much or if more options are always better when it comes to craft beer and brewery tap lists.

Craft Beer News: Brewery Mergers and Industry Shakeups

As always, the episode wraps up with Booze News, covering some major developments in the craft beer industry.

This week’s craft beer headlines include:

  • Tilray acquiring BrewDog’s brand and UK brewery assets

  • A new partnership between Drake’s Brewing and Figueroa Mountain Brewing

  • More consolidation across the craft brewery market

  • Angel City Brewing announcing its closure in Los Angeles

  • And a DUI story involving a 0.636 BAC, which sounds medically impossible

If you follow craft beer news, brewery mergers, hazy IPAs, and the craft beer industry, this episode has plenty to talk about.
