Craft Beer Republic's new episode, "Band-Aid Beer Science," covers the 2026 Goose Island Bourbon County lineup, a 160-year-old stash of Guinness recovered from a shipwreck, and the arrival of a non-alcoholic Pumpkinhead. Greg and Flex also get into Jester King's smoky mushroom beer, while a questionable can from Brewery X turns into an impromptu beer experiment.

Goose Island Bourbon County 2026 Goes to Dessert

Goose Island's 2026 Bourbon County lineup is part of this week's craft beer news, with dessert-inspired releases including tiramisu and apple crisp. The annual Bourbon County release remains one of the most recognizable barrel-aged beer programs in the industry, and this year's flavors give Greg and Flex plenty to talk about.

160-Year-Old Guinness Found in a Shipwreck

Guinness takes the underwater route into the news after bottles dating back roughly 160 years were found in a shipwreck. The discovery amounts to a very old booze cruise with a stash of Guinness still on board.

Non-Alcoholic Pumpkinhead Arrives for Pumpkin Beer Season

Non-alcoholic beer continues moving into familiar seasonal territory with an NA version of Pumpkinhead. The release brings pumpkin beer into the growing non-alcoholic beer category as breweries continue adding alcohol-free versions of established styles and brands.

Jester King and Some Gross Beer Origin Stories

Greg and Flex get into the origins of beer ingredients that sound questionable before they ever reach a glass. That includes a smoky mushroom offering from Jester King and the use of salt in beer, leading to a discussion of who first decided these ingredients belonged in a brew.

Band-Aid Beer Turns Into Impromptu Beer Science

Greg's Brewery X Roulette Hazy IPA provides the episode title after the first can comes up tasting like Band-Aid. Instead of writing off the entire six-pack, Greg and Flex compare another can of the same beer and find a very different result.

The unexpected difference turns a beer review into some impromptu Beer Science, with the guys comparing the cans to figure out whether the problem extends beyond the first one.

Super Troopers, Podcast Reviews and an Over-the-Top Tiki Bar

Flex finally watched Super Troopers 2 and is ready to give up craft beer podcasting in favor of a Super Troopers podcast, right meow. A new listener review also gets some attention during the show.

Greg reports back from a visit to an over-the-top tiki bar complete with rainstorms and cocktails that didn't live up to the surroundings. His request for something less sweet resulted in a "more complex" drink that was still very sweet.

Featured Beers

  • Drekker Brewing Shredneck DDH Double IPA: A juicy double IPA with citrus character.

  • Brewery X Roulette Hazy IPA: A hazy IPA that becomes an unexpected can-by-can beer experiment.

  • Jester King mushroom beer: A smoky mushroom offering that prompts a conversation about unusual beer ingredients and their origins.

More Booze News

The week's alcohol news also includes two drunk British soldiers allegedly taking a 15-ton armored vehicle for a ride.

"Band-Aid Beer Science" is available now from Craft Beer Republic, with Greg and Flex talking craft beer news, the beers they're drinking, questionable beer ingredients, tiki cocktails and a six-pack that required a little extra investigation.
