On Sunday, March 19th, 2023, I (Greg) had the pleasure of attending a Pink Boots Society collaboration brew day at 14 Cannons Brewing in Westlake Village, CA. As a beer enthusiast and producer for Craft Beer Republic, I was thrilled to be invited by Emily Gratke, their taproom manager and member of Pink Boots Society.
The event brought together women from all over the local beer community, including Monica Schmidt, head brewer of Pedals and Pints, Brit Brouhard, head brewer and owner of Naughty Pine Brewing, everyone's friend Deb, Coley, and others from the local craft beer community. The day was all about collaboration, education, and celebrating women in the beer industry.
Head brewer Nic Bortolin developed a recipe for a West Coast IPA that utilizes the Pink Boots Society hop blend. The hop blend is a special blend of hops created in collaboration with Pink Boots Society members, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the blend go towards funding Pink Boots Society's educational and professional development programs.
The brewing process was a true team effort, with everyone pitching in to measure and weigh ingredients, stir the mash, and add the hops. Throughout the day, there was a sense of camaraderie and support among the group, and it was clear that everyone was there to learn from each other and have fun.
At the end of the day, we toasted to a successful collaboration brew and the incredible community of women in the beer industry. I left feeling inspired and grateful to be a part of such an inclusive and supportive community.
Overall, the Pink Boots Society collaboration brew day was a fantastic experience that showcased the talent and passion of women in brewing. I can't wait to see the final product and share it with fellow beer enthusiasts. Cheers to Pink Boots Society and all the amazing women making their mark in the beer industry!
